Elvaston closing in on Alfreton
A MASSIVE defeat at Spondon has put Alfreton in relegation trouble in the Premier Division – and will have given Elvaston hope of pulling off an other great escape.
Ben Ashdown and Sam Kellogg put on 124 for the first wicket for Spondon, Kellogg going for 58 and Ashdown continuing to a fine 122.
When his brother was out, Joe Ashdown took over to crash 64 not out from 35 balls, leaving Alfreton facing a total of 337-6.
The early loss of Derbyshire's Steve Stubbings did not help Alfreton's reply and they were bundled out for only 88, Chris Windmill mopping up at the end with 4-8 from a ball short of eight overs.
Meanwhile, Elvaston were pulling off a vital victory at home to Ticknall, dropping their rivals to the bottom of the table.
Ticknall could manage only 182 all out from 46 overs but Elvaston did not need the extra overs as Nick Briars (47) and Brett Crichton (37) broke the back of the target and they got home in 36 overs for the loss of four wickets.
They are now only 17 points behind Alfreton – and are away to them on Saturday.
