Emmerson picks up junior award
MATT Emmerson picked up the most improved junior team player prize at this year's Derbyshire Junior Team Tennis awards.
The youngster, a member of Ashbourne Tennis Club, joined Ben Rushby and brothers Will and Rob Farr by receiving one of three special prizes at the annual event.
Rushby, of Church Broughton, was awarded best team player, while the Farr siblings, also of Ashbourne, were given the fair play award.
Prizes were also given out to clubs playing in the Derby Area Junior League, for players with little or no match experience.
Church Broughton won the award for the boys' 12 and under competition, while Ashbourne received the prize for the boys' 16 and under competition.
Seven awards were then given out to teams competing in the AEGON Derbyshire Team Tennis, for players of county and national standard.
The winners were: eight and under mixed – Ashbourne; nine and under mixed – Church Broughton; boys' 10 and under – Derbyshire Tennis Centre; boys' 12 and under – David Lloyd Derby; boys' 14 and under – Ashbourne; boys' 16 and under – Derbyshire Tennis Centre and boys' 18 and under – Ashbourne.
The prizes were handed out during a ceremony at Duffield Lawn Tennis Club.
