A DERBY school will mark the end of its 70th anniversary year with a concert and a 1940s themed day.

Gayton Junior School in Littleover will host a concert by the Mackworth Orchestral Society and Super Strings on Tuesday, June 23 from 6.30pm.

It will be followed, on Friday, July 3, by a day on which past pupils and teachers will be invited to the school.

That will be followed at 3.30pm by a fair which will feature typical 1940s activities including maypole dancing, a magician and skittles.

Both events have been organised by the Friends of Gayton School.

The school kicked off its anniversary year in September 2008 with a book marking the history of the school and the local area

Tickets for the concert, at £3, are available from Derby 607118.
