DARREN Moore left Burton Albion yesterday, the veteran defender and the club having agreed to end his two-year contract early.

Moore, who was club captain, said his goodbyes to the rest of the squad at his last training session and the decision, which had begun to look inevitable, will potentially give manager Paul Peschisolido more financial flexibility as he scours the loan market in a bid to boost the Brewers' League Two play-off bid.

"Darren has been a big part of what we have been doing here," said Peschioslido.

"He's a great character and the lads all think highly of him, as do the staff. It's an amicable split and now we have to move things forward.

"In his first season, he brought us stability and his professionalism was echoed throughout the club.

"On the pitch this season, due to injuries, he hasn't figured as much and we've had to look at it from a business standpoint."

Moore, who has Derby County, Barnsley and West Bromwich Albion among his previous clubs, leaves having taken his Football League appearances total to 599, while his career total stands at 670.

Only 42 of those were for Burton and Moore made only one start this season.

Moore said: "I've had a great time at Burton but, all of a sudden, from a player, I've become a Brewers fan, so I'll be watching with anticipation and hoping the lads show the good form they showed in the first half of the season."

“Agreed. He made a massive contribution to our last promotion season and by all accounts has always "given back" to the communities surrounding the clubs he has served.

    All the best Darren!”
