Eradicating polio would be an incredible legacy
I WATCHED Bill Gates' Richard Dimbleby Lecture with total admiration, amazement and an equal measure of disbelief.
The idea that one man and his foundation can act as a catalyst to totally eradicate polio from the planet in as little as six years would be the most incredible legacy.
If polio can be eradicated from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria whilst not being reintroduced to any other country, Bill Gates will have left a signature on society far more indelible than the Microsoft logo.
Should this seemingly impossible dream be realised, it should be remembered millions of people and families all over the world will still be living with the debilitating effects of Post Polio Syndrome for generations to come.

“Agreed - an incredible campaign and a brilliant lecture.
Since then I have read of several fatal attacks on the very workers who are trying to deliver the innoculations. Some societies seem hell bent on getting in the way of progress.”
