Families' hell in hurricane (with video)
TERRIFIED holiday-makers from Derby believed they would die when their hotel in Cuba was battered by tropical storm Hurricane Ike.
Colin Jackson and wife Marie were trapped inside their room as winds of up to 135mph battered the building.
The 51-year-old, of Oakwood, spoke exclusively to the Evening Telegraph about the nightmare holiday.
He said: "Through the night, I could hear women screaming and men shouting.
"It was awful. I thought I would be coming back to England in a coffin."
Sue Wilson, of Mackworth, was staying in the same hotel, in the Guardalavaca resort, with her daughter, Katherine.
The 45-year-old said: "Roofs caved in and trees were torn from the ground.
"It was absolutely terrifying."
