Father-of-two facing extradition to Latvia
A FATHER-OF-TWO is facing extradition to Latvia after being accused of assaulting a police officer during a stag weekend.
Matthew Neale has been forced to cancel his wedding ahead of a court hearing in London to decide if he will be sent to the Baltic state to stand trial.
-

accused: Mathew Neale was arrested in Latvia following a bar scuffle during a stag trip.
The 35-year-old was part of a stag party celebrating the impending wedding of Lee Graves, son of Alvaston ward councillor Alan Graves, when he was arrested following a bar scuffle in Riga.
But the civil engineer said he did not hit the officer and has been backed by Mr Graves – who was part of the group and witnessed the incident.
Along with another Derby man, David Birkinshaw, Mr Neale, of Shelton Lock, will appear at an extradition hearing on June 23.
He said: "I am worried that if I go over there, I will just be forgotten about. If it is decided I am going to be sent back, I will appeal to the High Court.
"I am innocent and will fight on until this is all over. This has put a strain on my family and I just want it to end."

“A similar thing happened to us In 2007. 5 of us got arrested after a fight, and went to court. 1 of us was accused of assualting a copper with CS spray. The copper was in a bad way with an allergic reaction. My mate had to stay behind in prison for 2-3 weeks, until eventually, the copper admitted that he had in fact sprayed himself in the face with the CS Gas. Their country is corrupt and as bent as George Micheal. If the bloke is innocent he needs to keep fighting this.”

“Without reference to this particular case, I think what Mike describes is a common experience, unfortunately.”

“Tony, as you have mentioned Mike has written about is personal experience of several incidents. But how can these incidents be sweepingly applied to 'UK blokes' and the shy Latvians. He may as well suggest that all US citizens are obese, obviously they are all not. I value his comments but lets not tar all UK tourists in Latvia with the same brush as his JC Morgan Chase executives. There are many 'UK blokes' who drink responsibly or not at all, perhaps a definition of 'UK blokes' is required.”

“As has been said, the only place he can prove his innocence is in court in Latvia. If extradition treaties exist all the court in London needs to decide is whether legitimate charges exist and whether extradition request procedures have been correctly followed. It is not within their remit to decide on guilt or innocence. I am curious to know whether he was arrested and charged over there before being allowed to return home. Will Mr Graves be returning to corroborate his assertion that he didn't hit any policeman?”
