Father was set for civil court hearing hours after blaze

MICK Philpott, father of the five children killed in a house fire in Allenton, was due to appear in court just six hours after the blaze.

Mr Philpott was supposed to appear in Derby County Court at 10am yesterday.

One of the hearings concerned an injunction brought against Mr Philpott by a person named in the court papers as Willis.

Mr Philpott has a number of children with Lisa Willis – in addition to those he had with his wife Mairead Philpott.

Yesterday at the scene a friend of the family, who would not be named, said Mr Philpott had been talking all week about his hopes for a positive outcome to the hearing.

She said Miss Willis and their children were living together at a different address to Victory Road.

She said: "He thought today was going to be one of the best days of his life."
