FIREFIGHTERS will be speaking to parents to ask them to think about how they park when they collect their children from school.

They will be outside Derby High School in Pastures Hill, Littleover tomorrow from 3pm to 4.15pm with the full support of the head teacher and staff.

Police officers, parking attendants and sixth-form students from the school will be working with the firefighters from red watch at Derby's Kingsway station.

Firefighters say selfish drivers who block roads can put lives at risk by stopping emergency services reaching their destinations as well as causing problems for residents who cannot get to their drives.

Helen Cope, of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We want to alert parents to the dangers and gain their support for the future. Most parents do think about safety but there is always a small minority who ignore the road markings and park as close to the school exits as possible."

The fire service is planning similar events in others areas.
