LONG Eaton Running Club's Rob Fox landed the V50 silver medal at the British Masters Athletics Federation Half Marathon Championships.

Fox stepped up from his usual 10K range to take on the race, held around two laps of an undulating woodland course at Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire.

More than 1,000 runners took part and Fox was leading V50 runner for a long spell.

He was through 10 miles in 61.13 but was overtaken by another runner in his age group within the last mile and beaten to the gold medal by 15 seconds.

Dicky Wilkinson, usually running longer distances over the fells, lacked road pace but still came a useful 25th overall and sixth V50.

The club's Ian Chant came fifth in 18.02 at the Norwich Park 5K in Norfolk.

SHELTON Striders' men won the team prize at the Chesterfield Spire 10-mile road race, which attracted more than 330 runners, including 128 from the Derby club.

The race was won by Andy Greeleaf of Winchester & District AC in 53 minutes and 11 seconds.

James Walker was the first Strider to finish, 11th overall in 54 seconds over an hour.

He was followed in by Sam Pearch (1.02.31), Stephen Pezzutti (1.05.01) and Roger Booth (1.07.05) to complete the winning team, Booth also collecting the V60 prize.

Judith Marriott led the female Striders home in 1.15.14 and was second WV45, finishing 40 seconds behind Stephanie Ilsley of Belper Harriers.
