Fresh lines of inquiry in attack on war veteran
FORENSIC experts have uncovered "a number of positive lines of inquiry" at the home of a 93-year-old war veteran who was knocked to the floor by a gang of youths.
The man, a marine in the Second World War, was left with bruising around his right eye, back and hand following the incident in Chaddesden.
Police are hunting a gang of four or five youths believed to have been involved.
Detective Inspector David Cox, who is investigating the incident, said: "A forensic examination of the property has been completed and that has provided a number of positive lines of inquiry.
"Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and safer neighbourhood team officers for the area have been out in force to help provide reassurances to residents."
The man was taken to hospital after the incident on Friday at about 8.30pm and remained in overnight before being released.
The gang broke in through a locked rear door. They damaged property in the bedrooms before escaping with a large amount of money.
