Former Rams full-back Geoff Barrowcliffe dies aged 77
GEOFF Barrowcliffe, a Derby County full-back for 15 seasons, died in Ilkeston in the early hours of Saturday. He was 77 and had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
Signed from Ilkeston Town in October, 1950, Barrowcliffe (pictured) made 503 appearances for the Rams and was in the team that won the Third Division North in 1956-57.

He had the potential to become a big name in the game had he moved to a more ambitious club but was content to stay at Derby. Full tribute in tomorrow's Derby Telegraph.

“Geoff could have left Derby for more 'fashionable' clubs to advance his career, he chose to stay at the Baseball Ground and went on to make 503 appearances.
I was there on the 27th April 1957 when we won the Division Three North title and although Ray Straw was the one the fans were cheering for Geoff should also have been getting their plaudits, he was a rock that season appearing 45 times and scoring 4 goals.
I only met him once but he came across as a genuine, lion-hearted man who was a credit to Ilson and Derby County.
R.I.P. Geoff [A true RAM]”
