Gala screening night for teens' crime films
ANTI-HATE crime films made by teenagers will receive their premiere at a film gala night at the University of Derby tomorrow.
About 100 teenagers from county schools have worked with Derbyshire police on short films illustrating the five recognised links to hate crime – disability, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation and transgender.
Films have been made by pupils from Wilsthorpe College in Long Eaton and William Allitt School in Swadlincote, Glossopdale Community College and St Philip Howard Catholic Sports College in Glossop, and Hope Valley College.
The anti-hate crime films, with and without soundtracks, will be premiered at the university's arts, design and technology building in Markeaton Street, Derby, from 6.30pm.
Derby County Football Club has already expressed interest in screening the films on large screens at the Pride Park Stadium before, during and after home games, to promote the Stop Hate Crime message.
During the university event, young film-makers will explain what their films are about.
A panel of judges, from within and outside the university, will review the work.
It is intended that some films will then be expanded into longer ones by the pupils with the help of second-year and third-year film degree students at the University of Derby.
