VIRTUA TENNIS 2009

PLATFORM: Wii, PS3, 360, PC.

GENRE: Sport.

PRICE: £34.99-£39.99.

REVIEW: Ed Hill.

ANDY Murray may have been wowing Wimbledon crowds but he just got beaten by a woman (Maria Sharapova, mind). Welcome to Virtua Tennis, where you're only as good as your last serve.

And, although not a perfect ace of a game, the receptive controls, depth of the career mode and inclusion of online play make this a required purchase for any sports fan.

To start you off, you pick up tips on how to play from acclaimed "legendary pro" Tim Henman in the tutorial mode. Lessons on serving, smashing and slicing soon get you returning serves from Nadal, Federer and co with confidence.

Hitting the ball is straightforward – hold the Wii-mote like a racquet and swing, timing it depending on which side of the court you want to hit.

But it's the nuances, the angle you hold the remote at and the strength you wield in each shot, that makes this a more involved experience.

The game has a World Tour mode. You can take your personalised character across the globe playing tournaments in a bid to rise up the rankings.

It also has an online mode, allowing you to battle opponents across the globe.
