BURGLARS used a garden spade to force open a window at the back of a house in Mickleover.

A gold necklace, laptop and a games console were among items stolen during the break-in, in Hospital Lane.

An iPod and a number of computer games were also taken after offenders got through a side gate to the rear of the property sometime between 11am and 5.30pm yesterday.

The householders noticed the burglary when they returned home from work.
