Green light for Rams Ladies clash against Hatters
DERBY County Ladies' scheduled home game against Luton Town this weekend will go ahead – despite the Hatters' future still being in doubt.
The FA Women's Premier League management committee gave Luton two weeks dispensation from fixtures to try and recruit more players.
Had they have pulled out of the league, then all records against them would have been expunged.
And, with the Rams one of few teams yet to play them, their points tally would not have been affected, meaning they could have risen up to fifth in the league.
"From a selfish point of view, now would have been a good time for them to resign from the league," said Derby County manager Steve Hall.
"They would then have had to start at the bottom of the football pyramid and work themselves up, so it wouldn't have been a good idea from their perspective."
A spokesperson from the FA said: "Luton Town have had a few problems lately not helped by an injury crisis at the club. But the club have confirmed their game with Derby County on Sunday and should be able to fulfil the fixture."
Hall will be keen to return to action after a positive but frustrating game against high-flying Manchester City.
Once again, the Rams created several chances but couldn't convert and were punished for not taking them.
City scored early in the first half but this seemed to spur Derby on, with Jenni Anslow's shot flashing across the face of goal and Jemma Douglas having a chance to make it 1-1 following a free-kick just before the break.
The Rams maintained the momentum during the second half but were dealt a sucker punch when City scored a second against the run of play.
There was also a defeat against Manchester City for Derby's Reserves, who went down 4-3.
Mel Johnson, Chloe Young and Lucy Antcliffe scored the Rams' goals.
Derby's Under-16s beat Sporting Club Albion 4-0 in the Central Warwickshire League, while the Under-14 11-a-side team were 1-0 winners against the same side.
The Under-14 9-a-side team smashed 11 goals past Uttoxeter Juniors without reply in the Burton Junior League.
And there was a 5-2 success for the Under-12s against Gedling Town in the Notts Girls League. The Under-11 White team triumphed 4-0 at Arnold Town, while the Under-14 Black team took a point from a 1-1 draw with Ratcliffe.
