Help put CCTV cameras into slaughterhouses
ANIMAL Aid has launched a campaign to have CCTV cameras installed in all British slaughterhouses. Its members went undercover and filmed illegal cruelty in seven out of eight slaughterhouses chosen at random.
The campaign is aimed at supermarkets, as they are the slaughterhouses' main customers. This gives them the power to insist on CCTV being installed and for them to be independently monitored.
Seven leading supermarket chains have said yes to CCTV in slaughterhouses. They are Aldi, The Co-op M&S, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Other main chains have also said yes.
This campaign could help prevent the worst abuse of animals in slaughterhouses.
Animal Aid is now trying to persuade Asda, Iceland, Lidl and the wholesaler Booker to agree to CCTV.
The campaign couldn't happen without the help of the public. Any support, no matter how small, count, as we have seen with the progress already achieved. Contact it through the website at www.animalaid.org.uk, email info@animalaid.org.uk or call 01773 364546.
