HeroTSC call centre in Derby to create 175 more jobs by Christmas
A CONTACT centre in Derby will be hiring 175 additional staff by Christmas after winning more work from multi-media giant Sky.
HeroTSC already employs 1,000 people at its Pride Park base.
It is accelerating recruitment to help out with Sky's pre-Christmas sales drive.
The Derby site, formerly home to internet bank Egg, was officially opened in early February with 400 employees.
Staff numbers will have almost tripled by the time the current intake is complete. Chief executive David Turner said: "It has been less than a year since we came to Derby so the good news is that nearly 1,200 families will have a Christmas they might not have had last year because they are now in employment.
"It is our aim to bring as much business to Derby as possible and we are in discussions with a number of potential clients.
"Like Sky, they have been very encouraged by what they have seen and the quality of the work carried out in Derby. There is capacity for between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs at our Derby base and, although the marketplace is tough, we have always intended to build the site to that level," said Mr Turner.
Originally, HeroTSC planned to have about 700 people working on the Sky account in Derby.
That initial target was met after only a few months of operation.
It is hoped that, in addition to taking on 175 people by December – 90% of whom will be full-time – the business will win more work and take on hundreds more over the course of 2013.
Senior managers at HeroTSC have praised the professionalism of the people it has recruited to its Pride Park base.
Anton Manley, the company's strategic accounts director, said: "I am very pleased that we are able to bring more jobs to Derby as part of our growing strategic partnership with Sky.
"These new jobs are part of an increase in business from Sky across our UK network.
"But we realise how important a role HeroTSC plays in the Derby community and increasing the employment opportunities is a significant boost to the area.
"Importantly the quality and professionalism of the staff we have here is of the highest standard and the centre has performed outstandingly since Sky came here.
"We look forward to that level of service and delivery continuing as we go forward," said Mr Manley.
Employees are primarily responsible for answering customer queries and for selling Sky packages and upgrades.
When HeroTSC was looking to set up a new base, Derby had to fend off competition from many other locations.
John Forkin, director of Marketing Derby, said: "HeroTSC chose Derby for its central location, the fact that the city already has leading employers such as Rolls-Royce, the workforce had a good reputation in terms of reliability and performance and there was a building ready for them.
"Last, but by no means least, Derby City Council was proactive, using a proportion of the Regeneration Fund to help the company move in.
"This decision to employ more people reflects well on the workforce in the city.
"It has exceeded our original expectations and we are looking forward to further growth," added Mr Forkin.
