Hologram arrives at airport to give security advice
A HOLOGRAPHIC projection of a woman – which advises plane passengers on security – has been introduced at East Midlands Airport as part of a £200,000 revamp.
Before people reach the newly-refurbished security area, they will be greeted by the image of the airport's senior terminal services assistant Heather Hodson. Airport officials said the projection would advise passengers about liquid restrictions and remind them to have their boarding cards ready for inspection.
The technology, developed by multimedia entertainment company Musion, uses a texture which retains "maximum transparency and strength".
Officials said the surface was better than a glass mirror, allowing the reproduction of high-definition video which "looks almost as good as the real thing".
They said other improvements to the security area included structural ones to improve the flow of passengers. Airport managing director Brad Miller said: "The hologram attracts attention, is customer-friendly and provides passengers with simple, informative messages, which we hope will take us one step closer to improving our customer's overall journey."
