Honorary degree for the chairman of Garrandale
AN entrepreneur who kept his company at the cutting edge of innovation for three decades is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Derby.
Dr John Foxcroft, chairman of Alfreton Road engineering firm Garrandale, will be honoured next January for his contribution to business in the county.
A longtime supporter of local enterprise, Dr Foxcroft has served on the Derbyshire Enterprise Agency Board and has been chairman of Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership.
Starting his career as a research scientist and combustion engineer at Rolls-Royce, he completed a PhD in mechanical engineering while at the firm.

Between 1971 and 1974, he was a Labour councillor and has also chaired Derby Business Venture, which offered support to start-up companies, and the Beasley Trust, a charity that helps children in need, the mentally handicapped and the elderly.
He also served as a magistrate in Ilkeston between 1988 and 1991, a governor of High View School in the late 1990s and was a non-executive director of Southern Derbyshire Health Authority between 2000 and 2002.
