Will Hughes and Mason Bennett start as England U17s wrap up tournament success
MASON Bennett and Will Hughes started for England Under-17s as they beat France yesterday to win the Algarve Tournament.
The Derby County youngsters played 70 minutes of the 2-1 victory before being substituted.
England had already beaten hosts Portugal and drawn with Holland before they faced France.
Southampton forward Calum Chambers put England ahead only for France to equalise before Aston Villa striker Callum Robinson hit a stoppage-time winner.
Bennett and Hughes featured in all three of the matches, each making two starts and one appearance as a substitute.
They will now return to Derby's Under-18 squad for Saturday's Premier League Academy clash against Leeds United at Moor Farm.
Derby's conquerors in the FA Youth Cup, Manchester United, won 5-1 at Swansea in the fifth round of the competition and now face a home tie against Charlton Athletic or Tottenham Hotspur.
Jack Barmby, the son of former England international Nick, was on target again for United.
Barmby scored both goals in United's 2-1 victory over Derby in a forth-round tie last month.
United's game against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium was watched by a crowd of more than 4,000.
United's other goals came from Gyliano van Velzen (2), Sam Byrne and Tyler Blackett.
DERBY County chairman Andy Appleby has spoken of his shock at the news of Nigel Doughty's death.
Nottingham Forest owner Doughty was found dead in the gym at his home in Lincolnshire on Saturday morning. He was 54.
Appleby has added his tribute to those paid by Rams manager Nigel Clough and chief executive, Tom Glick.
"Nigel Doughty was a lovely guy and I always enjoyed sitting with him for the Derby versus Forest fixtures both at Pride Park and the City Ground," said Appleby.
"He loved American Football and was also a fan of the New York Jets, and so we always had plenty to talk about.
"Nigel was always gracious whether his side won, lost or drew.
"I'm deeply shocked to learn of his death and my thoughts go out to his family."
Doughty bought Forest for £11m in 1999, saving the Reds from administration, and he invested more than £75m into the club in an effort to secure a return to the Premier League.
