If you can pull yourself away from the Olympics and I know I

can, zzzzzzzzz then plenty of gigs can fill the void in August.

At The Vic Inn tonight (Wednesday) there is a punk bonanza with

Sonic Boom Six and 3 Storeys High. Saturday August 9 features

11 bands from 2PM including Severed Heaven and Drag The Lake.

The Vic will be closed for five days from the 18th for a refurb

and will kick off again on the August 23. Also look out for

Aphemia who are well worth £4.

Over at Derby's newest musical addition The Royal has The

Official Machete Sounds Battle of the Bands tonight. On the

12th you can get geared up for Bloodstock Festival with a warm

up show featuring Cruel Humanity, Life Denied, Seniun Ex Malum

and Ignore This Fist. On the 14th You V Me host their club

night LadyFlash featuring Censored and Derby's

singer/songwriter, James Capper.

The Venue on Abbey Street starts August off with Homelands,

Shortwave Fade, Toxic Federation and Alien Angels on the 8th.

On Thursday 14th August, one of Derby's biggest bands You

Animals play support to Grammatics fresh from their stunning

Latitude Festival appearance. Also on the bill are My

Psychoanalyst and Smugglers Run. On the 27th James Capper plays

a headline show with Pavillion and Death By Orchestra while on

the 28th Desert Funk Specialists Esteban hit the stage with

Midas and Last Scene Falling. The usual monthly show takes

place at The Old Bell with The Roulette, Body Machine and Kugas

Sukas on the 15th.

Lastly I want to end these blogs with a link to a band I

think is well worth checking out. Following an amazing set at

this years Y-Not Festival in Matlock (which was ace) Manchester

band Whisky Cats get my vote. They are so entertaining you

can't help but love 'em. Check them out at
