'Immature' man is jailed for sexual act on 14-year-old girl
A TAKEAWAY worker has been jailed for sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl after they kissed under a bridge in Derby River Gardens.
Derby Crown Court heard Mohammed Ramzan was "an immature man of 20" at the time of the offence and thought the girl was 16, although he had no proof about her age.
Clive Stockwell, prosecuting, said the pair exchanged text messages and met in the River Gardens after the girl finished school for the day.
They went under the bridge, kissed and "got off with one another" as the girl later described it.
Ramzan touched intimate parts of her body and the pair "left on good terms", said Mr Stockwell.
When social services heard of the incident, they contacted police, who interviewed Ramzan. He denied the incident and also said he did not know the girl, added Mr Stockwell.
Ramzan, now 21, of Silverhill Road, Derby, later pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a girl under 16.
The court heard he had never been in trouble before.
Daniel Prowse, for Ramzan, said: "This is not a naive, young 14-and-a-half-year-old girl but a naive 20-year-old who committed a very stupid offence."
He said the girl consented to physical contact "which went too far".
Another man had introduced the girl to Ramzan "who was in some way pursued" by her.
The court heard he had already spent 40 days in Nottingham Prison where he had been the youngest inmate.
Mr Prowse said: "He is terrified about an immediate custodial sentence and is desperate to avoid it. He throws himself at the mercy of the court."
The court was told his wife had left Pakistan to live with him in Britain. He also lost his takeaway job after the girl's brother phoned the shop.
Mr Prowse said Ramzan had suffered embarrassment because of the incident and "is unlikely to offend again".
Mr Prowse suggested Ramzan be sent on a course to tackle his offending and added: "He has paid a heavy price for this sexual act with a 14-year-old."
Judge John Wait jailed him for 15 months and put him on the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years. He was also banned from working with children and must not contact two girls named in court.
The judge said courts initially looked at prison terms of four years for similar offences.
He said: "I accept entirely this was a consenting girl and not one who was completely naive. You were much older and have to accept the consequences of breaking the law."
The jail term also included one month for breaching the terms of his bail conditions.

“Poor boys! It is always the girl's fault, isn't it?! Men have been blaming women for their immaturity and inability to control their animal passions ever since Eve forced ol' Adam to partake of that apple. What pathetic and shameful creatures men are! I would implore you to grow up and " behave like men " but, apparently, those are diametrically opposite conditions.”

“Shakeel, Katie - I agree. Girls nowadays aren't stupid.... they know what they're doing yet the law doesn't reflect this.”

“I agree with Katie to the extent that the over-sexualisation of young girls in our society is something we are shamelessly ignoring.
Take a look at the toys girls have nowadays, the BRATZ sets, they make Barbie and Cindy look like Nuns.”

“i think its disgusting girls nowdays look alot older then they are. i saw a girl who i thought was about 22 in a pub i asked her for i.d and she was 13! 13 years old. no wonder these men are getting into trouble these girls are more trouble then the men. something should be done about our society. im 23 and i never thought about men or sex till i was 16. i dont class these men as creeps or pervs or whatever others call them! they 99% of the time dont no how old these girls are!”

“Yeah, why is it that girls are never punished in these kinds of things? The laws are all still made up on pre-Victorian basis where they assume that women are gentle innocent things who wit at home and men are all sexual predators.
I'm not defending the idiot, but surely the girl in these kinds of cases has some responsibility too. There was a recent American case where a young man convinced several partners she was over 18 and I believe she was bought to justice for that fact.”

“Sex or sexual contact with anyone under the age of 16 is an offence and should be punished no doubt about it. But i must admit i do feel very sorry for the younger generations. In a society that accepts sexualizing our youngsters and making them all look like jordan and such, how are young men meant to know if someones 16 ask for their ID before deciding that they like them?
I think that its time we taught our young girls in sex education the conciquences of lying about your age. Especially when that lie can end up costing someone so dearly. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that he is completely blameless, but maybe we should try and learn some lessons from this.”

“What a creep. 20 year old men should not be looking to get at it with 16 year old girls.”
