IMPROVEMENTS at a Derby infant school have been noted by Ofsted inspectors.

Pear Tree Infant School has received a good inspection in all areas from Ofsted, following a visit on November 21 and 22.

Councillor Martin Rawson said the school had worked hard to improve.

Staff and governors at the school, in Pear Tree Street, are pleased that efforts to improve its performance from satisfactory to good have been recognised.

The inspectors' report highlighted that "the headteacher's high expectations are at the heart of the school's continuing improvement." It pointed out several areas where positive work was taking place, including teaching at the school which had some outstanding elements and this had been central to its success in raising pupils' achievement.

It also stated that teachers engaged children exceptionally well and welcomed new pupils, who settled and make friends easily.

It also picked out that those families who did not speak English felt confident approaching the school because bilingual staff were on hand to help.

Councillor Martin Rawson, city council cabinet member for children and young people, said: "I am very pleased with the Ofsted results.

"The staff, governors, parents and children all work very hard to improve their school community and they deserve these results.

"My number-one priority is improving educational attainment for the all the children and young people of our city."

Since September 2012, all schools in the city inspected by Ofsted and whose reports have been published have been judged as good. In all but one case, they have improved from satisfactory to good.
