FOR the second week running, Burton Albion battled to an unconvincing 1-0 win over one of the Blue Square Premier strugglers, a result which keeps them at the top of the league.

The Brewers were unimpressive against a poor Lewes side but still had enough chances to have won easily, with Lee Morris especially culpable, as he missed three very good first-half chances.

The game was extraordinary only for a 62-minute first half, necessitated by long delays for a nose injury to Burton’s Tony James and a knee injury to Lewes’ Ollie Rowlands.

The game was decided by a penalty in first-half stoppage time, scored by Greg Pearson after Morris had been tripped.

LEWES: Banks, Barness, Cullip, Breach, Thomas, Standing, Rowland, Keehan, Wallis-Tayler, Taylor, Gargan. Subs: Fenelon, Barton, Richards, Elliott, Bell.

BURTON ALBION: Poole, Corbett, James, Buxton, Webster, Newby, McGrath, Simpson, Gilroy, Morris, Pearson. Subs: Harrad, Banim, Deeney, Austin, Bailey.

REFEREE: K Yeo (Essex).

In the Blue Square North, Alfreton Town beat Solihull Motors 4-1, while the misery continued for UniBond Premier Division side Matlock Town, who lost 3-1 to Ossett Town.

Eastwood Town came from behind to take a point from a 2-2 draw with UniBond Premier Division rivals Ilkeston Town.

Gresley fought their way back from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Spalding United in UniBond South. Elsewhere in this division, Belper Town won 2-1 at Brigg Town.
