AN inquest into the death of a nightclub reveller, who collapsed only minutes after being involved in a dance-floor row, will begin this morning.

James Gaunt, 48, was taken ill at the Crib Bar in Church Street, Ripley, at 10.40pm on Friday.

He was taken to hospital, where he died.

Shortly after the tragedy, Rob Askew, who runs the Crib Bar, said he believed Mr Gaunt had suffered a heart attack.

He said: “I am told he had an underlying heart condition.

“There was a minor altercation on the dance floor and then Mr Gaunt went outside into the beer garden. About 15 minutes later he keeled over. It is a tragic situation.”

The inquest, at Derby Coroner’s Court, is expected to last two to three days.
