A RECENT report tells of how Harrow Council is feeding all its children, not just Muslims and Jews, with halal meat! According to the Government-backed Farm Animal Welfare Council conventional Dabinah or halal and kosher slaughtering should be banned. The animal can take up to three minutes to die. In the UK such meat is only allowed for food consumed by Muslims and Jews. Any meat aimed at non Muslims or non-Jews must comply with all our slaughter regulations and so the beasts must be stunned first. Let us hope that such decisions as that made by Harrow Council do not come to Derbyshire. Could our county council officials assure us this will not happen? In case they do try this, parents should use the European Rights Act to force councils to stop discriminating against our children on religious grounds.
