LEAD inspector Dorothy Bathgate has written to all the pupils at Alvaston Infant School to thank them for making her feel so welcome when she visited.

Following the school's latest Ofsted inspection, she wrote that she was pleased to see everyone enjoying their learning and keen to learn more.

"You are taught by enthusiastic and caring teachers who want you to achieve high standards, " Mrs Bathgate wrote. "I enjoyed listening to the children in class one talking about a picture of a happy rabbit.

"I was just as excited as the children in class two when they discovered their surprise magic parcels which were helping them with their learning.

"The astronauts in class five certainly needed some help to find the total number of men who were blasting into space.

"You are all kept very busy with so many exciting jobs to do and no time is ever wasted.

"You told me your school is a very special place. I agree with you."
