Labour MP has betrayed her Socialist principles
SHAMEFUL is the only word to describe politician Margaret Beckett's acceptance of a damehood in the New Year Honours List.
Does her joy at being awarded the title not clash with her Socialist principles – the reason her followers and voters believed in her?
By becoming a dame she has become a hypocrite and a lackey to everything privileged in this country, which she has been against. She cannot pick and choose what principle to obey and which to conveniently ignore. She will lose a lot of voters for this ego trip.
If we must have New Year Honours, let the ordinary public have them bestowed upon them as, unlike millionaire TV and sports celebrities, the ordinary individual helps the vulnerable and needy in their community by going outside their comfort zone for love of life – not fame or gain!

“Oh Joe, what a ridiculous letter. Socialist principles only apply to the masses, not the politburo. Research the history of any socialist state and then your ignorance of socialism will be corrected.”

“Socialist principles? Oh yes, I remember those; it's the principles which allow a Socialist MP to deny the choice of Grammar Schools, selective schools, the assisted places scheme (which sent poor kids to fee-paying schools) to the rest of us, whilst choosing to send their own children to private, fee-paying schools (or wangling a place in a top, over-subscribed State school miles away from your home).
What's wrong with that?”

“Oh thank goodness it's another letter form Joe Coleman. I haven't read one of his for nearly two days and my withdrawal symptoms were starting to turn nasty!”

“Where do "socialist principles" prevent someone from accepting a title? Perhaps Lord Prescott could answer that question?”

“Did you not know all she's ever wanted is to be a VIP? She has never followed any sort of principle save that of 'getting ahead'. Look at her career, she has agreed with every one of the numerous leaders she has had, showing she will change her views to suit progression.”
