BRENDA Longworth's letter, "Discrimination on lamppost project?" (Letters, March 3) implied that Labour is in some way to blame for lampposts not being replaced in Boulton.

She is, at best, confused.

Firstly, Labour is not in control of Derby City Council, nor has it been since May 2008. The Liberal Democrats lead the council, and each of the last two Lib Dem budgets have been voted through thanks either to Conservative support or indifference.

Secondly, the Labour alternative budget, rejected by the Lib Dems and Tories this month, included specific cash to replace the lampposts Ms Longworth is getting herself in a twist about.

As Ms Longworth evidently shares Labour's resolve on the lampposts, perhaps she should be singing our praises.

Ms Longworth is a regular opponent to Labour candidates in local elections in Boulton ward. I appreciate her hunger to score political points but please get your facts straight.

Chris Williamson,

Leader of the Labour Group.
