Lack of taxi rank is a major omission
NEARLY three months ago, Lucy Care announced that the new bus station was complete. At the time, I suggested the statement was incorrect.
This has now been confirmed by an article "We're not there yet" (Derby Telegraph, March 8).
A major omission is the lack of a pick-up/drop-off area for taxis. Tony Gascoigne, city council transport department spokesman, says: "It was never intended to provide such a space." He adds: "There is a taxi rank clearly visible across the Morledge from the station doors."
The people who are responsible for this mess are obviously unaware that a large proportion of the public travelling by coach are elderly, some with walking, vision or other handicaps, and luggage. The coach bays are at the opposite end of the station to the rank and across a busy road.
