DERBYSHIRE landowners have been awarded grants by agreeing to transform their land to woodland.

The applicants, who live in Melbourne and Rosliston, among other places, will each convert 36 acres of land.

They received the cash from the Changing Landscapes Scheme 2009, which promotes the creation and growth of the National Forest.

The scheme will see almost 50,000 trees planted this year.
