Lawson blow adds to Derbyshire pain
An injury to on-trial leg spinner Mark Lawson added to Derbyshire's problems on the first day of their LV County Championship match against Leicestershire at Grace Road.
Lawson broke his finger batting as Derbyshire were bowled out for 194 and will not be able to bowl in the match.
Dan Redfern was the pick of the Derbyshire batsmen with 47 but he was out straight after lunch, lbw to Garnet Kruger, who went on to finish with 5-51.
Ross Whiteley, making his first-class debut, added a useful 27 and there were other dogged performances from Greg Smith (22), Tom New (24) and Jake Needham (23) but the wicket made life difficult for batsmen.
At the close, Leicestershire were 31-1.
