The BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) is urging Christmas shoppers to only buy gifts that have not been tested on animals.

Shoppers can avoid cruel animal testing by purchasing products bearing the BUAV's Leaping Bunny trademark – the recognised gold standard which guarantees a company does not test cosmetics and toiletries on animals.

Many people are unaware that cosmetics and toiletries on UK shelves can still be tested on animals. Despite UK and EU bans on animal tests for cosmetics, many products available in UK high street stores have been animal-tested in other parts of the world.

Yet, cruelty-free shopping has never been easier. As more companies are joining the BUAV Leaping Bunny scheme, there is a wider selection of products.

“I only shop at the Co-op for household products and Lush for soaps etc for this very reason. If everyone had to sit through videos of rabbits and beagles etc being tested on in labs then perhaps less people would buy products made by such unethical companies as L'Oreal, Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson.”
