LEON Haslam resumes his pursuit of World Superbike title leader Max Biaggi determined to take the championship all the way to the wire.

The Smalley ace trails the Italian by 60 points with six races of the campaign to go – the first two of them on Sunday at the Nurburgring.

And while he is well aware that the odds are stacked heavily against him, he has vowed to finish the season with a flourish.

A month ago in the British round of the championship at Silverstone, the Alstare Suzuki man chipped away at Biaggi's advantage with third and fourth place finishes, cutting the leader's margin by eight points.

Aprilia rider Biaggi was unable to match the pace of Haslam and his fellow Brits Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) and Jonathan Rea (Honda) as home riders ruled the roost.

Now Haslam wants to step up the pressure on Biaggi in the hope that he can force his rival into an error, with 150 title points still available.

He said: "I've managed 11 podiums this year, had only the one non-finish, in America, and only really had the one bad round at Brno.

"That was a good round for Biaggi, so it highlighted my problems, even though I got two top-10 finishes.

"I'm ready to get down to business now and I'd certainly like to add to my race wins in 2010 when we get to Germany and maybe give Max something to think about for the last couple of rounds.

"For sure I would like to win both races and put pressure on Max but there are a lot of good riders and good bikes out there and it's not going to be an easy weekend.

"But, I wouldn't be out there if I didn't like the battle and I get a real buzz mixing it with the rest of the top riders.

"We've had a good, long break and although I have been training hard and doing a lot of riding – mainly off-road – there is nothing like being on the track and racing flat out.

"All I can do is the best I can, beat Max in both races and hope he gets a couple of poor results."

The 27-year-old is looking to improve on last year's display at the German circuit when, as a privateer, he qualified in third place on the front row of the grid and then finished in sixth and fifth places.

He said: "Nurburgring is a circuit I really like and I should have done better than sixth and fifth last year.

"Jonathan Rea pushed me wide in the first race last year and Ben Spies ran me wide and I had to go off the track in the second race but that's racing.

"But last year (on the Stiggy Honda) there were some days – like Nurburgring – that things went well. I'd like to think I can now make the step up and win in Germany with the Alstare Suzuki."
