Library having its hours extended
A LIBRARY will be opening for longer due to popular demand.
This is despite cuts being made elsewhere in Derbyshire County Council's library service.
The authority said South Normanton library – part of the council's £8 million new community building in the town – had been a "hit with the public".
A spokesman said: "It will now open every Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm. It will also be open an hour later on Tuesdays."
The library's new opening hours are Monday to Wednesday: 9am to 1pm; Tuesday, 9am to 6pm; Thursday and Friday, 9am to 5pm, and Saturday, 9.30am to 12.30pm.
The move comes as the county council is on Wednesdayset to confirm a cut of £975,000 to its culture and community services department. This will include £455,000 from its "materials budget" for things like books and newspapers.
