Litter picking a waste of council resources in snow
AT 7.15am on Monday, I struggled round to Wiltshire Road, Chaddesden, for my papers and, lo and behold, outside the newsagent was a Street Pride vehicle with three men litter picking.
Amazing how this can be done with at least six inches of snow on the ground, I remarked to one of them about it, the answer being: "We have been sent out."
Far better if the powers- that-be sent them out with a vehicle, some salt and a couple of shovels to clear some of the dangerous walkways in the area, especially the alley way between Devon Close and Walpole Street. Most in Devon Close are elderly like me, some in their 80s, and, as this is our direct route to the shops, it is very dangerous when iced up. Also, it is a better use of workers' time.
