The exhibition is the brainchild of local artist Vitor Azevedo.

The 38-year-old was born in Portugal to parents who were both blind.

He said: "Art is my inspiration and it fascinates me to see all the different ways you can communicate through art to tell stories and memories.

"It has been a long month building up to the opening, including sanding the floor and painting everywhere.

"I'm slightly nervous but really excited. This is a chance for local people to see new artists work.

"I can't wait to see what everyone thinks."

The Mayor of Derby, Councillor Lisa Higginbottom, will officially open the gallery at 6pm.

It is open until Tuesday, February 19, and is free of charge.

There will be live music and the gallery will also offer workshops for children and young adults.

There is also exhibition and workshop space to rent as well as an arts shop.
