Lucky 13 for Lager as he toasts success in winter league match
THIRTEEN proved lucky for Mick Lager as he won the Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society match on Four Island Lake at Portland Fishery.
Lager, fishing from peg 19 for the 13th round of the winter league – a match that was jointly fished with Soldiers & Sailors AC, caught 34lb 14oz to beat runner-up Malc Munn by just over 5lbs.
Lager caught the bulk of his fish on maggot, with the carp in his net ranging from 2lb to 4lb.
He used the pole over caster feed down the track in the final 90 minutes to bump up his net.

Munn opted for the long pole, fished tightly to the island.
He alternated a variety of baits throughout to keep fish interested.
Munn caught mainly chub and carp.
Keith White was third with 24lb from peg 21, while Paul Mariott was fourth with 20lb from peg 23.
With five matches remaining, Neil Stevenson still heads the leaderboard, with 188 points from 12 matches.
Meanwhile, the club have had to switch the annual Fur and Feather match from the Erewash Canal to Marston's Lake, Sinfin, due to severe pollution on the canal.
However, the match will still take place on Sunday, December 2.
SIMON Skelton narrowly missed out on a 100lb bag as Rycroft Fishery held an open match on the Moat and Clover Lakes.
Skelton caught 98lb 4oz on the Moat, beating Martin Turner's 68lb 9oz and Keith Simpson's 54lb 14oz.
On the Clover, Kristian Powers came up trumps with 56lb 2oz to deny Barry Walters (55lb) and Charlie Shaw (50lb).
The fishery also held a silver fish only match on the Carp Lake.
This was won by Andy Taft, who caught 38lb 7oz.
Tom Hanser (25lb 10oz) and Ian Robinson (22lb 2oz) were second and third respectively.
AFTER twice finishing in the top three for Bridge Inn AC, there was a welcome win for Pete Woodward in club's open match at Marston's Pool.
Woodward, who was third in Bridge Inn's winter league match at Rycroft Fishery and second in the previous week's open at Marston's, went one better with a 56lb 12oz net containing five carp.
Woodward used bread to beat the 15 other anglers taking part.
Keith Hart was second, with 27lb with Erik Wright – winner of last Thursday's Open match – finishing third after netting 25lb.
