'Lucky' driver walks away after car flies through trees in A6 crash in Derby
A WOMAN escaped serious injury after her car smashed through trees and a wall and landed on its roof.
The 44-year-old driver was helped from her wrecked Peugeot 206 by shocked residents following the crash on the A6 Duffield Road in Derby.
Estelle James was sitting in her parents' front room when the accident happened yesterday morning.
The 41-year-old said: "I heard a bang and saw the car flying through the air after it hit the wall.
"I held the door open as the driver got out and all she had on her was a scratch on her head.
"She was just a bit shocked – she was so lucky."
It is believed children sometimes play on the spot where the car crashed but none were there at the time.
The crash, which happened at 11.24am, was on the northbound side of the road heading out of the city just past the new houses at St Benedict Catholic School and Performing Arts College.
The incident also involved a Vauxhall Vectra driven by a 32-year-old man.
The man suffered minor injuries, including whiplash, but police did not know if he was taken to hospital.
Officers from the Derbyshire force are now investigating the crash.
