Maiden tons for Derbyshire pair
Graham Wagg and Jon Clare both completed maiden first-class
hundreds on the second morning of Derbyshire's LV County
Championship match at Northampton to take them to a total of
485-7 declared.
Wagg was first to his century as he pulled a ball from Johann
van der Wath for his 13th four to add to four sixes. He had
faced 129 balls but, two overs later, he danced down the wicket
to Nicky Boje and was stumped for 108 - having added one more
boundary.
The seventh-wicket stand was worth 203 but Clare was untroubled
by the loss of his partner and a nudged single off Andrew Hall
took him to three figures for the first time.
He had faced 148 balls and hit 15 fours.
Clare came out to push the score along after lunch
and added an unbroken 71 for the eighth wicket with
Jake Needham (24 not out). Clare was 129 not out, which
included 19 fours.
Rain and bad light hit the start of Northants' reply but they
reached tea at 38-0 with 19 each for Stephen Peters and Niall
O'Brien.
