Man, 28, charged as some of Derby Museum's stolen artefacts are recovered

A 28-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged by police investigating the theft of £53,000 worth of coins, medals and watches.

The collection of 1,000 artefacts, stolen from Derby Museum and Art Gallery's city-based storage facility, were taken sometime between Wednesday, May 2 and Tuesday, June 19, last year.

But several of the items have since been recovered from Birmingham, following publicity on the theft.

The man, of Spondon, has been charged with handling stolen goods and is due to appear before city magistrates on February 1.

A 29-year-old man, who was also arrested as part of the inquiry, has been released without charge.
