FIREFIGHTERS cut a man out of a car after it veered off the road and hit a garden fence.

The crash involving a Ford Capri happened at 12.50am yesterday in Heanor Road, Smalley.

It took 15 minutes for crews to free the man, who was in his early-20s.

Nathan Stevens, Watch Manager at Ilkeston fire station, said: "The car had collided with a fence post. Paramedics wanted him cut out in case he had spinal injuries.

"His injuries didn't look too bad. They appeared to be cuts and bruises to the face."

The man was taken by ambulance to Royal Derby Hospital.
