MANAGER Nigel Clough was frustrated by Derby County's inability to build on their first-half lead against Birmingham City.

The Rams led through Ben Davies' 40th-minute volley but ended up losing the game 3-1 as goals from half-time substitutes Wes Thomas (2) and Nathan Redmond gave Blues victory at St Andrew's.

"We played pretty well at times but didn't get a result," said Clough. "We need to do more to get that second goal.

"When you are on top and leading by a goal, it isn't going to remain like that in Championship games.

"We should have scored more than one goal in the first half, particularly when a team is struggling at home.

"More experienced players would have gone on and killed off the game.

"You couldn't say it was a bad performance. We deserved something out of the game but it was due to our inability to get that vital second goal.

"One goal is rarely good enough to win a game in the Championship.

"The young Birmingham players livened up the game for them in the second half but generally my goalkeeper had little to do and we conceded three goals."

“I honestly think that we have a better squad than our league position shows however something has gone wrong since the turn of the year. Credit must go to the scouts and academy for spotting these players and we have been brilliant this season in some games when attacking the opposition.
However although NC may be frustrated that we lost a lead, he cannot be surprised !
We have been desperate for full back cover and a quality centre back partner for Keogh all season and yet we have recruited nobody.
Therefore the buck has to stop with the Manager for this sad but not surprising situation.
I have supported him 100% despite misgivings that the Clough name had a large part in the appointment however I doubt whether him and his gang of helpers have the ability to sustain a top 10 challenge.
Sorry to say it but it's time for change at the end of the season.”

“Although I am a fan of clough I feel that he has taken the club as far as we can go. Yes he's got a few key players out but we ought to be beating teams like birmingham, particularly after dominating them in the first half the way we did. Ok, we have no money but the depth of the team is appalling particularly as there is no plan b if the likes of Hughes and ward are injured. The way derby county play nowadays is a vast improvement and I was impressed when I saw them at Ashton gate and on New years day against Boro but I think at the end of the season it is time to let him go and give someone with a bit more umpf about them to take charge and lead us into the top 6 regularly. We have a team that can do that but a manager and board who seem happy to stroll along without making major improvements. Sorry Nigel but I think its time to go.”

“we lose £8m a season they put the season ticket prices up for only the second time in many years (whilst bringing in a new band thats cheaper than burtons cheapest ticket) and people moan that they wont buy one, yet expect us to pay more on transfers and wages? the club needs support form both the fans and the board if we want to progress.”

“We do not have enough quality or goalscorers to finish teams off and we are not got enough at the back NOT to concede. This is Clough's team. His signings, his starting 11, his decisions to give theo or Tyson a fair go. There is not enough quality, strength in depth or competition for places. We thought we were safe in January so did not strengthen. We are gradually slipping down the table and people are being too loyal to Clough.”

“I don't think there will be any older experienced players coming to us.....because lets face it we can't afford them,if we are not careful we are going to spiral down hill out of control,no investment in experience, definitely lower crowds, probably loosing another 2...3 thousand season ticket holders,.WE NEED INVESTMENT...OR NEW OWNERS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN OUR CLUB AND PROBABLY A NEW MANAGER AND BACKROOM.A.S.A.P”

“Cloughy is telling us what we know already.
We need a couple of old pro's who can knit the team togther with a bit of expeience.
I know Jamie Ward is good but it can't help the team with all these lay offs he has.Cash him in at the end of the season an get someone else.”

“More experienced players, one goal not enough, very true, so where are our more expeienced players?. More than one goal away from home, how many times have we scored more than one, yes 2 at Sheffield, but still did not win.We nearly win games, but thats not giving us many points.Whats the recipe for next season? we need something to banish the growing feeling of a club stuttering along, if we have young talented players a few changes might be enough, but if our young talented players cannot see us through a whole season, we will be going nowhere.”
