Mathew celebrates 32nd birthday after operation on foot
MOTORBIKE crash victim Mathew Taylor has celebrated his 32nd birthday after having an operation on his foot.
It is the second birthday Mathew has spent in hospital following his accident in Bali in July 2011.
The former Derby College lecturer suffered brain damage in the incident and was in a coma for several months. He could not leave his bed and was unable to speak.
But, today, he is no longer spoon-fed, can get about his hospital ward at the Royal Derby Hospital's King's Lodge unit in his wheelchair and can speak to his family and fellow patients.

His father, Darrell, said: "The operation was on his left foot, which was bent rigidly downwards.
"It appears to have gone well. He bounced back quite quickly and, hopefully, he will be better able to stand up and, in time, walk unaided.
"We took him a card on his birthday and some light sponge cake and sang 'Happy Birthday' to him."
