MATLOCK look to end a depressing run of defeats when NLD Cup holders Newark visit Cromford Meadows in Midlands Two East tomorrow.

Newark, beaten only once in the league this season, will be hot favourites and Matlock will need to display the spirit they seem to have rediscovered in recent weeks.

Last weekend's rest has slightly eased coach Chris Loeber's injury problems, although lock forward James Atkinson may need surgery on a troublesome shoulder problem.

In the forwards, Matlock's main doubt is Number 8 Mike Brookes.

The former England schoolboy international is struggling to overcome a neck problem which has kept him out since September.

Behind the scrum, Chris Mease is again selected at scrum half, Nick Coombes and Dan Hooton form their regular centre pairing and Alex Powell returns to give an attacking threat at full back.
