THREE people have been prosecuted for fly-tipping on land in South Derbyshire.

Leon Aisthorpe and Michael Langford were tracked by officers from South Derbyshire District Council after their details were found on items in the rubbish they dumped.

Meanwhile, witnesses reported seeing Hayden Cave dumping two mattresses, a door and packaging material on the B5008 between Repton and Newton Solney.

All three appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court.. Each was given an 18-month conditional discharge. More than £1,000 costs were awarded to the council.

Jack Twomey, the authority's environmental protection manager, said: "The number of households fly-tipping waste is on the increase. In some cases people are moving house and have lots of waste which they can't be bothered to take to civic amenity sites.

"There really is no excuse to dump it in the countryside."

Cave, 22, of Edmund Road, Spondon, admitted being in control of a vehicle used to deposit waste and dumping waste near Repton. Aisthorpe, of Ashley Close, Burton, appeared in court after he failed to provide information about the incident involving Cave.

In a separate case, Langford, 47, of Kingfisher Walk, Sinfin, pleaded guilty to depositing eight bin bags full of waste in Arleston Lane, Stenson Fields.
