PROFESSIONAL boxer Ovill McKenzie is known as "The Upsetter" but it was the Mayor of Derby who emerged as the victorious underdog at a charity clash in aid of the Lewis Mighty Fund.

Dozens roared on Councillor Sean Marshall as he defeated Derby's Prizefighter cruiserweight champion at an event that raised more than £1,000.

Wearing a T-shirt with the words "Mad Mayor Marshall" printed on the back, the mayor was on top throughout.

Mr Marshall used to box at school and looked in good shape as he defeated his 30-year-old opponent at The Golden Ring boxing club, in Spa Lane, Derby.

Right from the start he went on the offensive, despite understandably being intimidated by McKenzie's physique.

McKenzie said afterwards: "I thought I had better take it easy on him because it's the Mayor. He caught me off guard – I'm calling for a rematch."

A GRIEVING son told a court he was driving at 100mph on Mother's Day because he was upset about his mum's death.

Shahid Hussain, 23, was caught speeding on the A38 near Willington in his BMW, Ilkeston magistrates heard.

They fined him £216 with £35 costs and a £15 Government surcharge.

Hussain, 23, of Rykneld Road, Littleover, admitted speeding and told the court he was "quite distressed".
