Meeting organised to discuss closure of town's GP centre
PEOPLE are being urged to attend an NHS meeting about the closure of a GP practice and walk-in centre.
Fourteen jobs will be lost when the Ilkeston Family Practice and GP Walk-in Centre, on the site of Ilkeston Community Hospital, closes next month.
It has more than 1,500 registered patients but health trust NHS Derbyshire County said the decision to close it had been made by "mutual consent".
It said this was to reduce duplication of services – the practice was opened in 2009 at a time when there were no extended hours available at GP surgeries.

But members of the Save Ilkeston GP campaign said the closure would have a "huge impact" on Ilkeston and surrounding areas and have started up a petition.
The meeting organised by NHS Derbyshire will take place at 1.30pm tomorrow at The Arena in Ilkeston.
Amanda Jackson, campaign organiser said: "The centre plays a vital role to our local community and it's important that people come along to raise their concerns to NHS Derbyshire, to help them understand why this centre must not be closed".
In six weeks, more than 2,000 people have signed the petition to save the centre.
