A MIDNIGHT walk organised by a mother whose daughter died of skin cancer has raised £4,100 for research into the condition.

Alison Taylor held the event to mark the first anniversary of 15-year-old Katie's death.

Katie, who never sunbathed or used sun beds, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma after a mole on her leg swelled up.

Katie's Midnight Walk took place in Somercotes on Saturday, attracting about 80 people.

Alison, of Albert Street, Leabrooks, said: "We had people take part who have had skin cancer or lost family members and they said it was fantastic we were supporting research, so that gave us an even bigger boost."

Money raised will go to Katie's Fund, which pays for research into skin cancer at Nottingham City Hospital. The walk was held for the first time last year, just days after Katie died, raising £8,075.
